Hellas Verona Football Club
Hellas Verona Football Club, commonly known as Hellas Verona or simply Verona, is an Italian football club based in the city of Verona. The team plays in Serie A, the top division of the Italian Championship.
Founded in 1903 as Associazione Calcio Hellas, Hellas Verona became the only team from a city that is not a regional capital to win the top-tier championship, achieving this feat in the 1984-85 season. The 1980s were a golden era for the club, which also reached the Italian Cup final twice and participated in several European tournaments, including the European Cup and the UEFA Cup.
Verona’s team colors, yellow and blue, are inspired by the city’s emblem, which features gold and azure. The team is nicknamed “The Mastiffs” and “The Scaligers,” in reference to the Della Scala family, who ruled Verona between the 13th and 14th centuries. The Scaligeri’s heraldic coat of arms is reflected in the team’s logo and kit, depicted as two powerful mastiffs facing opposite directions.
